Fantasy Premier League: Week 18

With both Costa and Kante suspended for this gameweek I decided to transfer out Kante,  but kept Costa as he is one of my best players!  For Kante, I bought in Fletcher - he'll be mainly on the bench, but will hopefully be decent (and cheap) back up.

#NOTD: Turquoise / Snowflake

For these nails, I used all gel polish.
Base Coat: gdi Base Coat
Green: Elite 99 Spring Green - three coats
Silver: RS Nails 289 - two coats
White: Bluesky Snow White - three coats
Top Coat: Candy Coat Super Shiny No Wipe Top Coat

For the snowflake I used a nail art brush and used only one coat of the green polish. and then added a little of the silver polish.

In real life, the polish looked slightly more similar to the image below.  You can see that a little clearer on the snowflake.  If anyone knows of a polish which is super close to the colour of the outside edge of the wheel rim, please let me know!

Yes, this is a wheel rim.  It is one from Lewis Hamilton's car during the 2014 F1 World Championship (the year he won his .  I still can't believe that J bought this!  You may or may not know that we have very different views on Lewis Hamilton... he's J's favourite driver, whereas I'm not a fan!  Even though I'm not a fan of Hamilton, I'm strangely enthusiastic about this wheel rim!  It's pretty awesome that it is from one of his actual cars he used during the season, and there aren't too many of these about.

Fantasy Premier League: Week 17

Having taken first place in the £15 Super League all for myself in week 16, now it's time for me to try and create a little gap - and hope my captain choices are good ones!  Let's see what happened in Gameweek 17...

F1 Nails - Felipe Massa

Today I have some more Formula One inspired nail art. Another driver retiring at the end of the 2016 (or so we thought!) was Felipe Massa.  Like Jenson Button (nail art here) Massa is also one of the nice guys in the world of F1.

Massa has had a long Formula One career, beginning at the 2002 Australian Grand Prix.  He missed out on the driver's championship in 2008 by one point to Lewis Hamilton, with Massa actually in first place in the drivers standings when he crossed the line, but during the final lap Hamilton overtook Timo Glock and took the title.

In 2009 during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, Massa was struck on the head (through his helmet) by a spring that had come off Rubens Barrichello's Brawn, and then crashed head first into a tyre barrier.  Massa was flown straight to hospital and had surgery on his injury.  Initially his condition was described as life-threatening but stable, but luckily it improved quickly.  He subsequently had to have a plate fitted into his head to protect his skull.  After rehabilitation and tests, he was allowed back racing.  Towards the end of the 2016 season, Massa announced his retirement from Formula One.  Sadly, he crashed out of his final home Grand Prix, which took place in very wet conditions and featured multiple safety cars and red flags.  On his walk back to the pit though, he got to savour the crowd and all the mechanics came out of their pit garages and it was such a lovely moment.

From left to right:
Index Finger: The red and yellow reminded me of the Ferrari colours - a team Massa spent 8 years with
Middle Finger:  Brazilian Flag - Massa's nationality
Ring Finger: Light blue, red, black and white like the livery on the Williams
Little Finger: 19 - Massa's racing number.

With Nico Rosberg's immediate and sudden retirement after winning the 2016 driver's championship, there is a seat available at Mercedes.  Massa's teammate from Williams, Valteri Bottas is the favourite to take the seat leaving the door open for a possible return for Massa for the 2017 season...

Fantasy Premier League: Week 16

Week 15 was great, I reached the summit of the £15 Super League.  The only problem now is, it's pretty much only downhill from there...  Could I stay there after week 16 or would I start to slide down the table?  Let's take a look...

Fantasy Premier League: Week 15

With Week 14 really giving me a boost, I was looking forward to Week 15 and seeing if I could close the gap on first place in the £15 Super League a little more.  Read on to see if I was successful in this or not...

#NOTD: Nails Inc - Gatwick

Today's nails are courtesy of Nails Inc via Poundland!  I was pretty excited to find Nails Inc polishes on my trip to Poundland, so snapped up four different ones to try.  The first one I tried is 'Gatwick' a glorious matte red.

F1 Nails - Jenson Button

At the end of the 2016 season, there were a few big name retirements - Jenson Button was one of these.  Here is my nail art tribute to his Formula One Career:

Fantasy Premier League: Week 14

I made one transfer and two changes to my team this week... Let's take a look at how that worked out for me:

With Coutinho being a key player in my team, I felt with him being out for a few weeks it was worth transferring him out and bringing someone else in to (hopefully) score some points.  I decided to bring in Eriksen.  Out of the starting line up went Williams and Coutinho, and in came Lovren and Eriksen.

#NOTD: Red Holo Gel

How gorgeous is this red holographic gel nail polish?

I have been after a red holo polish since I purchased my born pretty holos a while ago, but the red one was always sold out.
I found these holographic gel polishes on eBay and was so happy to get a red one! I also purchased a pink one, which I haven't tried out just yet.

Fantasy Premier League: Week 13

Last week was a pretty positive week, so I have gone for an unchanged team this week.  Let's see how my team did:

I decided to transfer out Bellerin, who is currently out injured, for Lovren who seems a good replacement.  I think I may still transfer Bellerin back in again when he is fit, but who for - I'm not sure yet.

Fantasy Premier League: Week 12

After the international break, it was back to league duty for the players.  Let's see how my team did this week:

Luckily the break gave Costa time to recover from his injury ready to captain my team again this week.  Sadly Bellerin & Lamela are still out injured.  I substituted out goalkeeper Mignolet and bought in Pickford, as he seems to be scoring quite well at the moment, and will be a good addition to my team.

UCI Track Cycling World Cup, Glasgow

The first round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup arrived in Glasgow at the start of November.  While many of the stars of the Rio Olympics were resting, there was still an impressive line up of riders in attendance.

The last time the World Cup was in Glasgow was November 2012 and I was an anti-doping chaperone volunteer.  I had an amazing time (which you can read about here).  I applied again to volunteer this year, and was appointed to the Front of House team.
Essentially we were the first people that spectators saw when they arrived at the venue (after security at the main doors), and as well as welcoming everyone with a smile and a 'hello', some of us sold programmes and some of the team had cardboard cut-out frames to take pictures of people in (I couldn't resist having my picture taken, see below!)

Fantasy Premier League: Week 11

I made a couple of subs ready for this gameweek:  I bought in Kingsley and Capoue for Galloway and Snodgrass respectively.  Due to Costa's performance last week, I kept him as captain for... was this the correct decision?

Fantasy Premier League: Week 9

New week means yet another captain change.  I decided to go for Costa, as Chelsea were playing Manchester United and I figured with Costa scoring quite a few goals recently he would probably score, so I might as well get double points which would help cancel out the pain of losing points from De Gea conceding.  Let's see what happened...

Fantasy Premier League: Week 8

New Gameweek means new captain.  Ibrahimovic let me down last gameweek, and Costa let me down the week before so I decided to go with a player who has been pretty solid so far this season.  Let's see what happened...

Fantasy Premier League: Week 7

Following on from the performance of my team in week 6, I changed my captain back to Zlatan Ibrahimovic - I did have an urge to change it to Juan Mata, but I wasn't 100% sure whether he would start - and bought Robert Snodgrass in for N'Golo Kante.

Fantasy Premier League Round Up: Week 1-6

Welcome to my Fantasy Football weekly update.  I am a little late in starting this as it is now week 7 of the Fantasy Premier League, but this is going to be a weekly thing from here on forward, and I think it will be very cathartic - allowing me to vent my frustrations or sing a players praises.

Scotland Gel Nails

For my birthday, one of the gifts I received was a uv lamp gel nails set.  The first nails I did were holo purple (picture at the end of this post) and I was just so impressed with how it all went, and how hard the polish felt once it was all done!  I didn't cap the ends, but I was really impressed that the nails stayed in tact for a whole week - I would probably have done my nails with regular polish at least 4 times in that time!

I'm onto my second set of gel nails now, and with Andy Murray Live (a charity event organised by Scottish tennis player Andy Murray) coming up on Wednesday I felt that some Scottish nails would be apt.  Plus, I really wanted to use the blue polish as it is gorgeous!

Ignition Festival, Glasgow - Audi R8 V10

As mentioned in the previous blog, through a prize draw from purchasing my ticket in the pre-sale, I was lucky enough to win a lap around the street circuit track at the Ignition Festival and a paddock tour.

The specially designed street circuit went around the SECC, Armadillo and the Hydro - as shown in the picture below.  Not shown in the picture, just behind the Hydro, there was a shorter figure-of-eight shaped track which was predominantly for drifting.

Image from Ignition Festival of Motoring
There was just another competition winner, along with myself getting to go in one of the Top Gear supercars, and we were asked which car we would like to go in - the Ford Mustang or the Audi R8 - but I think we were both too polite to choose one, so Mark the paddock manager (who I had actually come across during my volunteering at the 2012 Olympic Games - small world!) decided for us.  The other winner was to go in the Ford Mustang which went a little more sideways, and I was to go in the Audi R8 which went a little faster!

Ignition Festival, Glasgow - Track Action

There were two track sessions each day at the Ignition Festival, with viewing available almost all the way around the specially built circuit, which went around the SECC and the Hydro.  I watched some of the action out the back of the exhibition hall, some from the paddock, and some from the grandstand.  Each session lasted around two and a half hours, and it was non-stop action.

Ignition Festival, Glasgow - Paddock/Arena

Where do I begin?  Last weekend saw the launch of a brand new Festival of Motoring - 'Ignition' - in Glasgow.  There was no way I was going to pass up the chance to attend and purchased my ticket as soon as I could, in the pre-sale.  I had completely forgotten that pre-sale purchases using certain codes were entered into prize draws, so when I received a phone call telling me I had won, it was a complete shock - a very good one at that (pictures of my track experience prize are in the next blog post)!

Ignition Festival ran from Friday 5th - Sunday 7th August, and as my ticket was for the Sunday, I spent two days checking out all the news and pictures on social media getting very excited!  There was so much to see and do, including: exhibitors in the main arena, a test drive area, the live track sessions and live shows in the back of the arena.  Even though I was there all day, I didn't manage to see everything!

I went by myself, but it turned out that I knew a few of the volunteers who were at the event and the other volunteers I met were lovely and friendly too!  I also managed to introduce myself to some VisitScotland work colleagues who were at the event with Hamish the Coo-Van (although they might have thought I was a little mad, because I was pretty excited all day!).

Barry M Coconut Infusion - Bikini

I was intrigued by Barry M's new Coconut Infusion line of nail polishes, but wasn't sure if they were anything special... after waiting for a bit, I decided I'd try them out, so I took advantage of a Boots 2 for £7 offer (normal price £4.99 each) and purchased Bikini (minty green) & Starfish (nude).

Aussie Daft!

If you don't already know, I am a huge fan of Formula One.  I have watched it for as long as I can remember, back in the days where there were races on TV at 3am in the morning.

Back then, the driver I was cheering on was David Coulthard - he comes from the same region as me!  Fast forward to 2007 and as well as cheering for DC, I couldn't help but also root for DC's teammate Mark Webber - another intelligent driver and nice guy.  Following on from Webber's retirement, his replacement at Red Bull in 2014 was another Aussie, Daniel Ricciardo.  It is hard not to warm to Ricciardo, as he is one of the smiliest and most genuine drivers on the grid - he is also a very talented racing driver, producing some wonderful overtakes, and completely outshining reigning champion Sebastian Vettel in his first season with Red Bull.

What a squad!

Threave Castle

Last week, I took a little trip down to Threave Castle.  Although (at the time of writing) it is still currently closed due to flood damage, it was a lovely walk down to the bank of the river (where you can usually get the boat across to the island on which the castle is situated).

Not too far from where you would normally take the boat across to the castle, there is an Osprey viewing platform.  Although there were 4 chicks in the nest, I only saw the female osprey, but I was still pleased seeing the one as it was my first osprey encounter.

#NailArt - Vamos España

Tonight, the 1964, 2008 & 2012 Champions of Europe / 2010 World Champions, Spain take on Croatia in their last group match of the 2016 European Championships.  After two matches, Spain have 6 points and have already qualified for the knock out stage.

As soon as I saw the away kit for the Championships, I knew I could base a nail design on them, so that is what I did.  I used two coats of my Born Pretty peel off base coat (which is white), and then used a nail art brush to fairly successfully paint on little triangles of red and yellow.  The polishes I used were: an unnamed CMHandmadeUK red (lighter red), Nails Inc Hanover Square (darker red), Accessorize Carnival (lighter yellow) and Rimmel 055 Sunshine (darker yellow).  I finished off my nails with a coat of Seche Vite.

Australian Flag Nails

Today, I did these Australian Flag nails in support of Daniel Ricciardo who was starting from 2nd on the grid in the European Grand Prix in Baku.  Both practice and qualifying were very eventful, with a few drivers touching the walls of this new street circuit, and many going down the escape routes, however, the race was probably one of the most uneventful this season.
