#TBT Red with Caviar/Water Decal

I have quite a few manicures I did before I started posting my nails on my blog, so i have decided to throw a few in using the #TBT (Throwback Thursday - from twitter!) title.

For my first #tbt I have some red nails with caviar and water decals.

I used Nails Inc St James, some nail caviar which I got as part of a set from Poundland, and some cute owl water decals which i purchased on Ebay.

I did these last year in July.  This was around the time I was starting to properly dabble in nail art, with a view of adding it to a blog.  (I had a previous blog, but it was very much a 'dear diary...' sort of blog.)

St James is a GORGEOUS red, look at that shine!

Week 12 Fingerfood's Theme Buffet - Freestyle / #RainbowNails - Pink

I decided I'd add some nail art to the swatch I did of Poundlands Jess polish, Dancing Queen.  It's a gorgeous pink with silver shimmer.

Without flash.

I added some zig zags using nail vinyls (which are amazing!!), and used 17 silver holo. For the other nails I used Barry M 'hologram hexagonals' (the large glitter) and LA Colors 'star light'. I topped off with InVogue pro formula diamond top coat, which I am loving at the moment!

With 'auto enhancement' natural (not very bright) light.

Review/Swatch: Jess - Dancing Queen

I recently went to Glasgow and visited Poundland again.  I can't help myself!  Whilst I was in there I found a lovely Jess polish.  It is called Dancing Queen.  Dancing Queen is a deep pink (bordering on purple in some lights) with silvery sparkles.  It was £1 for 9ml.

With Flash

Without Flash

This is 3 coats.  Only the thumb has a top coat.

The polish didn't smell bad at all - which I found with the previous Jess polishes I bought, and went on nicely. It's maybe a little streaky, but for £1 you can't really complain!  Each coat went on better than the last.  The polish dried quite quickly too, which is always good in my eyes!

It's a gorgeous colour, and I could t stop staring at it in the sunshine today.

Look out for some nail art featuring this polish as the base for my #RainbowNails pink in a week's time.

#HePicksMyPolish - March

From The Sparkle Queen

This is the first #HePicksMyPolish I have officially done.  Excited to be part of this, however, not as excited as I think Jamie is! Haha. My 'He' is my boyfriend, Jamie.

He picked:

Sally Hansen HD - Pixel Pretty
Sinful Colors - Courtney Orange
B&M Metal Nails - Silver

He picked the orange & green because they "were colours that caught his attention". He had a bit of difficulty deciding on his third colour, and plumped for the silver in the end, because, "he likes it against the metallic orange".

I used a dotting tool for the dots, and Nail Vinyls for the zig zags. The B&M silver wasn't the best for use with the nail vinyls as it went on thick and quite dryly, so came up at the edges even though I took the nail vinyls off straight away, and carefully.  One good layer of top coat smoothed it out quite well though.  The top coat I used was InVogue - Pro Formula Diamond Top Coat. The Sally Hansen sure does sparkle in this rare sunshine that is happening right now!!

I was a bit like "Hmmmmm :/" when he was telling me the colours - not least because the last manis I have done were mostly orange and green for the #GetLucky nail art challenge!  But... I really like the silver with the orange and green, and I'm quite impressed with the way my nails turned out!!

#RainbowNails - Yellow

I've left it quite late to post this! Oops!
I had done a nice mani at the start of the week, gradients of yellow with holo dots and accent nail.  However, I smudged it before I cleaned up and took photos...
Here is the gradient before dots:

So, I salvaged my pinky and ring finger and just used 2 different yellows on my index and middle finger.  Also, my ring finger nail broke so I decided to cut my nails!

Shine On Award

I am LOVING doing these types of posts!

Sarah has nominated me for a Shine On Award.  Go check out her blog Sarah Smiles.  She also makes gorgeous nail polishes, necklaces and keyrings!  I'd also like to wish her a Happy Belated Birthday. As she has recently turned 20 :)

So, the Shine On Award was created to show how all our blogs can make us, the blogger  shine, and how we can all brighten up each other's days.  How sweet!  The rules are: link back to the person who nominated you, write 7 facts about yourself and nominate 15(!) other bloggers to continue the tag.

Last week when I started to write up my TMI blog post, my electric went off which killed my computer and I lost all my progress, today as I'm writing this the weather is really wet and windy.... I hope my electric doesn't go off again this time round!!

Seven Facts About Me.

1.  I love animals.  I have 2 rabbits - Bunny & Dandelion - and 2 dwarf hamsters - Chico & Fred - who live in my room with me here at home.  We also have a cat called Alfie.  I would have more if I was allowed - and had more space!  At least I know my boyfriend loves animals too, so it won't be a problem in the future.  He wants to adopt and animal from Nowzad, which I'm so excited about as there are some really lovely animals with such sad back stories.  I think in the future we will probably be regulars at our local rehoming centre too haha!

Queen of the South Shirt
2.  I love sport.  Sport is a big passion of mine.  Not so much doing it, but watching it and helping with the running of it.  I am a keen fan of Formula One - David Coulthard was brought up not far from me and I've been to his museum many times.  I was then a big fan of Mark Webber - such a genuine nice guy with so much knowledge and talent, just not much luck!  I was introduced to cricket by Jamie, and have a soft spot for Chennai Super Kings.  I'm not into county cricket or international cricket, but I will be watching the IPL when it's back to support CSK.  Through volunteering at a Track Cycling World Cup I developed a great interest in track cycling.  I volunteered at a junior world championships and always try and watch it when it's on TV.  One day I'd also love to go to Wimbledon, and I enjoy watching tennis on TV.  I also like watching athletics.  My favourite sport is football, and I have a season ticket for my local league club, Queen of the South. So that's where you will find me most Saturdays, at the football!

3.  I love TV programmes about houses, restoration and decorating etc, such as Homes Under The Hammer, Escape To The Country and Grand Designs.  I love looking at furniture, furnishings and decorations in shops, there are so many different themes I'd love to decorate rooms in, I'm either going to have to buy a house with 20 rooms, or become a property developer..!  I also love looking online at properties and imagining what I'd do if I bought it, like what I would use the different rooms for and how they'd be decorated... Is that weird?

4.  I am currently looking for a job... Employ me, someone? Anyone?  My dream job would be within the sports tourism industry.  It is where I am best suited.  I have studied sports and tourism, my passion is sport & I have a keen interest in tourism, and 90% of my experience is within sports tourism.  I really enjoy meeting people from all over the world, and showing them this country and having a general sports theme to trips.  It's great to have something in common with people you are looking after, so looking after people with an interest in sports is fun as you can share stories and learn about sports in their country.

Some pink polish.
5.  I think I am addicted to nail polish.  As you can probably tell from many of my blog posts, I spend many an evening painting my nails.  I also enjoy finding bargains, and there are plenty of nail polish bargains to be found.  I love going into Poundland and finding a Revlon polish, or a Sally Hansen polish for £1 when they would usually cost a few pounds more.  I once saved around £32 on a poundland nail polish haul!  I have around 300 nail polishes, not as many as some people I have seen, however, I consider it to be a damn good collection.  It is constantly growing too...!  I can't wait until I move into my own place, Jamie has already volunteered to make me a nail polish storage shelf, which will be awesome!  I didn't even need to ask!  My dream is to have my own office within the house (well, Jamie gets to have a man cave, so it's only fair I have my own room too!), and within it I can display all my pretty nail polishes.  But first I need a job to fund moving...

The Courteeners, O2 Academy.
6.  I have a rather varied taste in music.  This is very obvious by some gigs/concerts I have been to, they include:  Steps x3, Courteeners x3, Liam Fray, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jane McDonald x3, Glasvegas x2, Of Monsters & Men and The View.  I have to say Lady Gaga put on such a show, it was fabulous (even though there was an hour gap between the support and her starting her set!).  My favourite Courteeners gig was the most recent one at the Barrowlands.  I'd never been there before but had heard about it being a great venue for gigs.  The set was brill, and quite long, and most importantly they played my favourite song 'That Kiss'.  My favourite Steps concert was the first one I went to at the SECC on their reunion tour.  It was absolutely amazing and it took me back to my childhood.  It had always been a dream to go and see Steps in concert, and it felt so unreal actually being there, and I had all the words embedded in the back on my brain somewhere as I hadn't forgotten any of them.

7.  I seem to collect quite a few things.  I have lots of autographs, photos with famous (and not so famous) people, cuddly toys and stationary, as well as nail polishes/decorations/tools.  I also seem to have collected quite a lot of paraphernalia (big word!) from the events I have volunteered at - t shirts, lanyards and pin badges.
Track Cycling World Cup volunteer tshirt, signed by Robert Forstemann, Kristina Vogel & Stefan Botticher, along with my passes.
Spain Shirt signed by some of the Spanish Olympic Football Squad including:  David De Gea, Juan Mata, Javi Martinez & Cesar Azpilicueta.  Sorry about the reflection, it's so tricky to take a picture of it now it's framed and on my wall!
If you got to the end of all that, then well done.  I think you know quite a bit about me now!

I'm not going to tag 15 people, as I can't think of 15 people to tag who would appreciate the tag.  So, I tag:

I may add a few more people to the list in the near future.

Topic 6 - Food - 2014BloggerChallenge

Okay, so this topic is a little tricky.  I mean, I really enjoy making cupcakes, biscuits, pasta bakes, pizzas, cookies etc but can't think of any out of the ordinary recipes to put on here.  And then there's the fact that I am a really fussy eater haha...  So I am going to just tell you a few of my (VERY RANDOM) favourite things...

My Favourite.... Type of chocolate:
KINDER chocolate.  I mean, YUM.

My Favourite.... Thing from a fast food restaurant:
Burger King Chilli Cheese Bites.  I live ages away from a Burger King (40miles!) so whenever I visit Glasgow I make sure I get some.  They are so good.  I'd love some right now!
My Favourite.... Thing to get from a takeaway place:
Macaroni Cheese & Chips, Rice & Curry Sauce or Aloo Pakora.

My Favourite.... Meal (currently):
Potato Croquettes, Plain Pasta, Cheese & Mayo.  It may look a little anemic on the plate, but it sure is delicious!

My Favourite.... Sandwich:
Cheese!  I love cheese.

My Favourite.... Flavour Pringles:
Sour Cream and Onion.

My Favourite.... Thing to get from Subway:
Bacon, Double Spicy Cheese and Lettuce with Mayo on Hearty Italian Bread - simple but yummy.

My Favourite.... Vegetable:

My Favourite.... Pizza Topping:
Because I am so fussy, I usually just go Margharita.  If I make the pizza myself, sometimes I will add bacon, or a few bits of jalapenos.

My Favourite....  Pasta Sauce:
I love a tomato and chilli base, with cheese.

My Favourite.... Part of a Christmas Dinner:
Stuffing and Roast Potatoes.

So, you can probably tell I was clutching at straws... any other ideas for things I could add - please let me know and I will add them haha.  Basically you can tell I love cheese and unhealthy foods!

Look forward to seeing what everyone else blogs about for this topic!

World Cup Trophy Tour

The World Cup Trophy recently visited Glasgow on the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca Cola.

There were loads of fun activities on, all football based.  You could get your picture taken with the famous trophy, and the Mascot Fuleco was also in attendance.

I painted my nails especially:  I chose to do the flags of some countries on one hand - Brazil, Spain, Honduras, England and Japan, and I did '2014' in the font used in the logo for the World Cup on the other hand, with a grunge effect on my thumb using the colours of the numbers.

Here is a picture of me and the World Cup Trophy.

When I accessed my image online, I got asked if I'd be happy for my picture to be used in a giant flag which will be unveiled at the first game of the World Cup, of course I clicked Yes.  So, if you happen to watch the opening match of the World Cup and see a giant flag unveiled, then my picture will be on there somewhere!

And here is me with the World Cup Mascot Fuleco, I think he is an aardvark.

I had a lovely day in Glasgow firstly seeing Suzie, and then meeting Hannah to go see the World Cup.

#GetLucky - Freestyle/Week 11 Fingerfood's Theme Buffet - St Patrick'sDay

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Last day of the challenge today, and that means the prompt for today is 'Freestyle'.  I recently tried grunge type nails, and really liked them, so decided I'd do an Irish flag inspired one. I then thought it looked unfinished, and was at a loss as to what to do when I saw a sharpie and decided to go for drawing the Guinness harp logo... It didn't turn out too badly!

I used:
Barry M - mint green (light green)
Barry M - peach melba (light orange)
Rimmel - tangerine queen (darker orange)
Cynthia Rowley - unnamed (darker green)
JESS - (white)
Black Sharpie.

And here is my final mani for this challenge:

Taken in different lights. Numbers 5,6&7 have a filter effect on them.

I was going to do a whole new post for Fingerfood's Theme Buffet Week 11, however, the mani I did didn't turn out very good at all and I mucked it up before I'd taken photos... So I decided to just add it in here.

#GetLucky - Shamrocks

Day Three and today's prompt is 'Shamrocks' (along with a few other things, however, I chose to base my mani on shamrocks).  This was the day I had an idea in mind for as soon as I saw the prompt list.

I used Gems to make the leaves of the shamrocks - which have 3 leaves (it is clovers that come with a 4 leaved 'lucky' version). They didn't turn out as brilliant as I had hoped. I had to do orange instead of white because I got frustrated with my whites as they weren't going on right! Then I found it quite tricky placing the gems with my left hand!  I prefer the gem placement on my index finger and the stem on my ring finger!!

And now, picturesss:

Again, I planned then out on the templates downloaded from

I changed white to orange because my white polishes were annoying me when I did the mani! I think it would have looked fresher with white. Next year!!

#GetLucky - Irish Inspired

Day Two and the prompt is 'Irish Inspired'.  I have gone for the Irish Flag and some plaid.  I think my nails look Irish-ish, and they feel very bright!! My first time attempting plaid on my nails, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out, I just wish I'd used the same green for it rather than opting for a nail art pen. Next time!

I used:
Sinful Colors (orange) - Courtney Orange
W7 (green) - Matt Green
China Glaze (white, thumb) - Snow
MUA (white, middle/ring) - All Nude
Rio Art Pen (green/yellow).

Here are the pictures of my mani:

I planned it out (on the wrong hand!!) using templates from :)

#GetLucky - Shades of Green

This is a 4 day challenge set up by Jessica at Be Happy and Buy Polish, ready for St Patrick's Day.

Today is Day One and the prompt is 'Shades of Green'.  I really like how this turned out.  I didn't really plan it, I chose my shades of green and I just went for it.  Should have used striping tape for neater lines but was planning on finishing it off with glitter lines or black lines, but I thought that would cover up most of the green and went for a glitter topcoat instead so the lines weren't too obviously not perfectly straight. I don't like green very much, but I definitely didn't mind having this in my nails :)

For this mani I used:

Beautifly - Holo Glitter Top Coat

(Darkest to Lightest Green)
W7 - Matt Green
Sally Hansen - Kiwi Bikini
Primark - Unnamed Green
Barry M - Mint Green

Here is my mani:

#RainbowNails - Red

Kelly over at Adventures in Tea and Cake (what a cute blog name!) has come up with a new weekly nail art challenge to replace the void left by #NailArtWeeklyProject finishing.  It is called Rainbow Nails and is based on the children's song which goes "red and yellow and pink and green, orange and purple and blue...".

I have been a bit busy the past few days and will be for the rest of the week, so apologies that this is pretty simple and the clean up isn't 100%, but I promise that next week I will try and be more creative!!

For this mani I used a base of China Glaze 'Red Satin' x2 coats, and then one coat of Maybelline Color Show 'Wine Shimmer' on top.  I added the gems and them topped with InVogue Diamond Top Coat.

It was so hard trying to get photos of this (EVEN with the sun making a rare appearance), as the wine shimmer topper is SO sparkly and beautiful in person.  Anyway, here are some photos taken in various lights and positions :)

I look forward to checking out everyone else's #RainbowNails.  Leave me a link to your posts in the comments!
