Tribal Nail Art

Image
I think I have found my favourite design to do.  Tribal. If I am lacking nailspiration, I know I can do a tribal design, which will look pretty creative and interesting, without having to think too much.  After being away at the Commonwealth Games for a few weeks, not having too much time to do my nails, I decided to get back into nail art by doing a bright tribal design. I used PS Nail Polish (From Primark - £1!) in Orange and Mint Green, as well as a Glow in the Dark PS Nail Polish (Primark - £1.50) in Yellow. The blue I used was Collection 2000 'Blue Hawaii' (Poundland, £1 for 3!). For the detail, I used a black Rio nail art pen and a white nail art pen from Primark. I made a cabochon ring to match my nails!  What is your 'go to' nail art?

Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Ten

Image
Welcome to Part Ten of my Clyde-Sider series. I have (mostly) written these posts as I have done the various media days, training days and shifts (or a day or two after).  I hope you enjoy the tales of my time volunteering for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games!!  This is a very picture heavy post, oops! On the 3rd, I was on an early shift and had very little to do first thing.  Everyone else was out and about on drives, so Clyde & I watched the women's road race on TV in Canada HQ.  Once everyone returned, Suzie & I had a little walk around the village and it was starting to feel pretty empty!  The weather definitely wasn't as good towards the end of the Games, and we got absolutely soaked returning from our late lunch, but luckily it was time for me to get changed and get ready to go to the Closing Ceremony. I went to Burger King (again - gotta make the most of it! haha) for dinner, and then I met up with Hannah. We were one row from the front!  The Closing

Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Nine

Welcome to Part Nine of my Clyde-Sider series. I have (mostly) written these posts as I have done the various media days, training days and shifts (or a day or two after).  I hope you enjoy the tales of my time volunteering for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games!! I was off all day on the  30th  as I had athletics tickets for the morning session with Hannah - the only tickets I had won from the ticketing ballot.  I also managed to get a ticket for the evening session from Martin as his friend couldn't make it from London and was selling his two tickets.  Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone to go with, but I wasn't going to miss it just for that reason!! In the morning, we saw: Men's 200m Round 1 Women's Long Jump Qualifying Men's Discus Qualifying Women's High Jump Qualifying Men's 400m Hurdles Round 1 Women's Heptathlon Long Jump Women's 800m Round 1 Katherine & Lindsay!! Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Eight

Welcome to Part Eight of my Clyde-Sider series. I have (mostly) written these posts as I have done the various media days, training days and shifts (or a day or two after).  I hope you enjoy the tales of my time volunteering for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games!! The 24th July was a busy day for me.  It was very tiring, as Hannah & I didn't get back from Glasgow until after midnight after the Opening Ceremony on the 23rd.  It was up nice and early to get through to Glasgow again in time for the Netball.  I had never been to a proper netball match before so it was really interesting.  We had really good seats, a few rows from the front, behind one of the nets.  The first game was Malawi v Northern Ireland, which Malawi won, and then Australia v Wales, which Australia won.  Unfortunately we had to leave a little early as both Hannah and I were on late shifts.   Canada won their first medals!  A silver in the women's triathlon for Kirsten Sweetland, and a gold i

Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Seven

Welcome to Part Seven of my Clyde-Sider series. I have (mostly) written these posts as I have done the various media days, training days and shifts (or a day or two after).  I hope you enjoy the tales of my time volunteering for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games!! Wow... I'm on to part SEVEN already, and it's only just the Opening Ceremony!  Here are some pictures from my shift.  I was on a late shift, so I watched the Opening Ceremony from Team Canada HQ!  It was a great shift, as the Village was buzzing.  Susan Nattrass was chosen to be the Team Canada flag bearer.  With the rest of the team wearing their awesome tartan trousers - Canada tartan, the 4 colours of the maple leaf during the year!! - she wore a special kilt! I applied nail decals to Gillians nails, and we all put on Canadian flag temporary tattoos. It was amazing just how many Canadians there were in the team.  To see them all gathering together ready for the ceremony was fantastic!  Whilst watching

Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Six - RADIO ONE BREAKFAST SHOW LIVE

Image
July 22nd was a long day for me.  I was up really early so that Hannah & I could get to Glasgow for 8am, and I had a late shift after the Breakfast Show!! The BBC were hosting a number of radio and TV shows at the Quay in conjunction with the Commonwealth Games.  Most shows were balloted.  I was lucky enough to get two tickets in the ballot for the Radio One Breakfast Show Live.   The guests on Nick Grimshaw's show were: Clare Balding, Professor Green, Ella Eyre, Naughty Boy, Sam Romans, Gemma Gibbons, Kelly Edwards, Megan Fletcher (England, Judo), Steph Owens (Wales, Weightlifting), Josh Taylor (Scotland, Boxing), Luke Carson (Northern Ireland, Gymnastics), Jason Mohammad & Trevor Nelson.  Clare Balding was lovely, and spoke to Hannah and I about our volunteering, and Luke Carson told us to visit team Northern Ireland in the Village! Hannah & I. Luke Carson & I. Clare Balding & I.

Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Five

Image
Welcome to Part Five of my Clyde-Sider series. I have written these as I have done the various media days, training days and shifts (or a day or two after).  I hope you enjoy the tales of my time volunteering for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games!! My second 'day one' wasn't too stressful, as Hannah was starting her shift at exactly the same time as me so drove in. I went to the Service's Centre to check in as normal, but this time I wasn't staying. I asked for directions to Team Canada's part of the village.... however, I found the map of the village hard to work out... so in the end I set off in the general direction of Canada, just looking for Canadian flags. I found it really quickly - it was a lot closer to the Service's Centre than I knew!! Most of the other Team Canada CGA Assistant Clyde-Siders had started the day before, but they were all accepting of me, the newcomer!  After introducing myself to everyone I met, I had my firs

Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Four

Image
Welcome to Part Four of my Clyde-Sider series. I have written these as I have done the various media days, training days and shifts (or a day or two after), but I am only posting them now that the Games are over due to media rules and me airing on the side of caution - didn't want to get 'sacked' before my role even started (haha)!  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the ups (and downs) of my time volunteering for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games! Tuesday 8th July 2014 aka DAY ONE ! CGA Assistant Mobile! I was quite pleased I was on a late shift the first day, as I don't particularly like early mornings, so this was great to get into the swing of things.  I felt proud when I put on my uniform, however, I felt very obvious on my way in to Glasgow as there were not many people on shift this far from the beginning of the Games.  I managed to get to the Village without any problems, phew!  Once inside, I was given my first 'reward & recognition' gift - a bag

Clyde-Sider Journey - Part Three

Welcome to Part three of my Clyde-Sider series. I have written these as I have done the various media days, training days and shifts, but I am only posting them now that the Games are over due to media rules and me airing on the side of caution - didn't want to get 'sacked' before my role even started (haha)!  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the ups (and downs) of my time volunteering for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games! Uniform and Accreditation: This was one of the days I was most looking forward to!  After seeing the uniform at orientation, I was so excited to finally get to try it on and get my own!  It is even better than I expected!  My favourite item is the soft shell jacket and I will definitely be wearing it after the Games have finished.  When I returned home, I donned my uniform and had a photoshoot with my mum being the photographer... She took over 100 photographs!  I knew I had to get at least one decent photo as I had to send one in for a BBC article! Her

Welcome to Part two of my Clyde-Sider series. Orientation: Katherine (from media day) and I shared a hotel the night before orientation, as it was too far for us both to travel up to Glasgow for an early start.  We met up with Kate & Lindsay (also from media day) the evening before orientation as it was the perfect time for a catch up.  This was a lovely evening and it was great to catch up with such friendly people.  We all met in the Counting House - funny story number one, Kate texted the wrong number when she thought she was texting Linsday to say she had arrived (she even received a reply:

Guest Post - A day in the life of; ThePerksOfMeg

Image
Hello everyone, I'm  ThePerksOfMeg  and I'm doing a guest post for the lovely Emma and here you will see what I got up to on one of my days; it was the weekend. You can come and see my blog for more beauty and lifestyle posts  here  and maybe even give me a follow  here. Firstly I got out my John Green collection to see what book I should read next; I've read The Fault In Our Stars (there will be a review of this on my blog soon) and I've read paper towns and I have a review of it  here  and I loved them.  Then I looked through the Benefit brochure and lusted over all the products that I need in my life. I then went to a party to past the time and then we watched football and I didn't get in till 1:30am haha! I also didn't go to bed until 4:00am, whoops!  In between these photos I did a bit of editing and blog scheduling for all of you and then slept. As you can see my days are quite chilled and I don't really do much. I don'

Guest Post - Beauty UK Posh Pout Review by Eleanor

Image
Hey guys! My names Eleanor from www.littlethoughtsfromlittlepeople.blogspot.co.uk and I’m here to do a guest blog post on Emma’s blog! Over on my blog I do feel good, ego boosting posts while dealing with important issues and controversial subjects and essential messages, I also do beauty and book reviews and hauls and once a month a music post where I run down the charts and talk about new up and coming stars. Today on Emma’s blog I wanted to do a little beauty review since I know that’s what most of Emma’s followers will be into.  So I wanted to review Beauty UK Posh Pout moisturizing tinted lip balm which at the moment is my all-time favourite lip product.  This range comes in six colours which you can see here: My favourite colour is the sugar plum fairy one. I find this to be such a lovely every day colour to use that’s not overly bright (like I always panic lip products will be) but it is noticeable unlike some tinted lip balms are. This Is definitely pigmented and feel

Guest Post - Doctor Who Nails by Alexandria

Image
Hello Lovelies! I'm Alexandria from A girl and her chicken named Betty and I'm so happy to be guest posting for Emma today! When I asked Emma what sort of nail art I should do, she told me to just do whatever I wanted, and what do I immediately think of when I can do anything I want? Doctor Who of course! I freehanded some of the various Doctor's catchphrases on each nail, my thumb says Brilliant, index is Geronimo, middle is What (one of my favorites from Ten), ring is Allonsy, and my pinkie is Cool. My base is EN-VY blue my mind and I used various blues for the wording, I think the thumb came out the best, the blues go together very nicely! Polishes I used: EN-VY blue my mind, Wet n Wild wild shine I need a refresh-mint, Pure Ice home run, Zoya giovanna, NYC cashmere creme, Lotus Herbals colour dew deep sea, Wet n Wild wild shine clear nail protector, and a detail brush. Thanks for reading and thanks to Emma for having m

Nailsxo World Cup Nails 2014 - Nigeria

Image
Nailsxo World Cup Nails 2014 Nigeria Nails & Football, two of my favourite things! I am so excited to be taking part in this challenge, which is the brainchild of Emily over at Nailsxo .   Everybody who is taking part in the challenge was assigned a random Country which is taking part in the World Cup in Brazil (not long until it starts, yay!).  After being given the Country (I was assigned Nigeria ), the challenge was to make some nails based on the Country.  Also, which ever teams wins the World Cup, the person who was assigned them wins a prize (although, let's face it... I'm not really expecting Nigeria to do that well)! So here they are: My index and little fingers are my own take on Nigerian fabric patterns. I was using my friend google to help me find some inspiration for my nails.  I found a  website about Nigeria , and found out that tie dying is very popular.  I also did a google image search for Nigerian patterns/fabrics, an

My Big Weekend

Image
Radio One's Big Weekend ~ Ideal Home Show 24th - 26th May, 2014 Picture Heavy Post! I had an amazing weekend, but I'm extremely tired now! Day One Friday An early start for a trip up as far as Hamilton, with my mum & brother, then I continued on to Glasgow, where I was meant to meet my friend Suzie (but she never appeared! But at least I got to have chilli cheese bites while I was waiting! I also spied Tiƫsto loitering backstage and could see everybody getting ready for Friday's Big Weekend show!), then I went to Milngavie to meet Hannah, before we went back to hers, via Stirling Tesco - You could say I was very well travelled!! My nails for the weekend! (I probably should have done another layer of green!)

#GetLucky - Freestyle/Week 11 Fingerfood's Theme Buffet - St Patrick'sDay

Image
Happy St Patrick's Day! Last day of the challenge today, and that means the prompt for today is 'Freestyle'.  I recently tried grunge type nails, and really liked them, so decided I'd do an Irish flag inspired one. I then thought it looked unfinished, and was at a loss as to what to do when I saw a sharpie and decided to go for drawing the Guinness harp logo... It didn't turn out too badly! I used: Barry M - mint green (light green) Barry M - peach melba (light orange) Rimmel - tangerine queen (darker orange) Cynthia Rowley - unnamed (darker green) JESS - (white) Black Sharpie. And here is my final mani for this challenge: Taken in different lights. Numbers 5,6&7 have a filter effect on them. I was going to do a whole new post for Fingerfood's Theme Buffet Week 11, however, the mani I did didn't turn out very good at all and I mucked it up before I'd taken photos... So I decided to just ad
