Health/Disease - SLN Charity NailArt Challenge!

A new month brings a brand new theme for the charity nail art challenge from Dawn @ SassyLittleNails.

This month, the theme is Health/Disease.  Again, I have so many I would like to do, but I have picked Shine.

Take a look at their website here:  SHINE

SHINE stands for:
Spina bifida • Hydrocephalus • Information • Networking • Equality

They provide a service (in England, Wales & Northern Ireland) to support people who are dealing or living with Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida.  They are a community of around 75,000 people who are individuals, families, friends and professionals, who all share their stories, information and achievements.  They offer support and education.  Find out more on their website.

I used:  Barry M 'Lemon', TarasTalons 'Don't Question Me' & Rimmel 'Your Majesty'.  Topped off with InVogue Diamond Top Coat.  To make the 'zig zags' I used my new nail vinyls.

Week 5 - #NailArtWeeklyProject - Glitz & Glam

So, week 5 of the Nail Art Weekly Project is here, and this is it, the end *sad face*.  I've really enjoyed this challenge, the prompts/topics have been great, and being once a week makes it enjoyable and not stressful haha.  The prompt for the final week is glitz & glam.  I decided to use a polish which I have not used on my nails yet, TarasTalons Glitterball, which is an AMAZING glitter polish, full of light pink, dark pink, silver?, and some blue glitter.  It's gorgeous.  My photo's don't do it any justice whatsoever, it really sparkles in the light.

As glitter gradients are my favourite thing to do, I decided that that is what I would do.  It's what spring to mind as soon as I saw the word *glitter* in the email giving hints for this topic.

Here are the polishes I used:

Black Star (Revlon), Diamond Top Coat (InVogue), GlitterBall (TarasTalons).

Week 8 Fingerfood's Theme Buffet - Cute

For Week 8's cute theme for Fingerfood's Theme Buffet, I decided to do a cute little owl.  I got my inspiration from @twentysixnails on instagram.  Definitely take a look at her instagram, she has so many cute nail art designs.

The polish on my other nails is LA Colours - Candy Sprinkles.  Its such a fun nail polish, and very much like indie polishes I have seen.

The blue for the base of my owl was Revlon - Blue Lagoon.

I used two High Brow (from B&M) polishes for the main part of my owl, pink and purple.  The white and orange are both un-named, and the black is Rimmel - Black Cab.  I then used W7 Diamond Top Coat.

Week 4 - #NailArtWeeklyProject - Birth Month

Ohhh, it's week four of the Nail Art Weekly Project - the second last week, it's gone really quickly, feels like New Year wasn't that long ago!  The topic/prompt for this weeks nail art was the month of your birth.

My birth month is August.

Picture from Wikipedia
I went for my birth stone, which is Peridot (right).  I wish it was something other than a green stone haha as green is a colour which I don't really like. I decided to try the cling film technique again to see if I could improve on the last attempt. I think I am getting better (apart from on my index finger where I managed to create a big hole in all the polish right in the middle!).  I also opted for this method as because I don't like green much, I have a limited selection of green polishes and didn't have the 'perfect' peridot colour, so decided to mix up a darker green, yellow, black and a neon green and this was one of the best ways to do that.

Week 7 Fingerfood's Theme Buffet - Abstract

Week 7 of Fingerfood's Theme Buffet already, wow.  This week's theme is 'abstract'.  The cling film (saran wrap, plastic wrap) manicure is a technique that I've not tried.... until now.

I found a brilliant tutorial on BritNails.

The pictures are of my 3rd attempt.  Firstly I used orange and pink polish which ended up just looking too similar to each other, so didn't iook very impressive.  I then added a layer of grey on top again using the cling film technique, but my nails just didn't look finished.  I was stumped about what to do, but I ended up adding a layer of white on top and I really like what I ended up with.

Blue & White Neon Stud Mani

Here is a simple but cute mani I did using China Glaze Snow - White, Beautifly (No Name) - Blue, 17 Lasting Fix - Clear, and some neon studs.

The blue polish is really lovely, and sparkles in the light.  This is the first mani I have done using the neon studs, and I can't wait to encorporate them into more manis - watch this space.

Topic 4 - High End v High Street - 2014BloggerChallenge

I don't really buy high end stuff:

1. Because I don't have a big budget (hopefully someone will employ me soon!).
2. I can always find what I want for good value (and sometimes exceptional value), so why should I pay for something I can't afford that does the same thing?
3. I LOVE a bargain.
Agree or disagree, I don't really mind.  Each to their own - everyone has their own preferences and budgets. Hey, if I could afford high end, maybe I would splash the cash a little more often.

So, I'm going to show you a few things that I've found for a good price, that does its job and a few bargains that I have found.

Week 3 - #NailArtWeeklyProject - Valentine's Day

I'm posting this late into the week, but I have made it.  I did do this mani a little while ago, but I haven't shared it, so it is 'new'.

I have used all High Brow (from B&M) polishes - grey, purple, pink & blue - along with China Glaze Snow (white).  I'm not sure where I got the gems from.  I also used Beautifly glitter top coat on my index finger, ring finger and thumb.

To do both the dots and the heart I used a dotting tool.

I really love this mani, and I was surprised that I didn't pick any of the gems off!  Here are some pictures of my nails in different lights, and with/without flash/HDR:

I'm currently looking for people with less that 200 bloglovin followers, to nominate for a Leibster Award...  If you fancy being nominated (I prefer to nominate people who want to be nominated!), leave me a link to your blog in the comments, thanks!

Week of Love Valentine's Day Nail Art Challenge - Freestyle

The last day of the Week of Love Valentine's Day Nail Art Challenge is here!  It's Valentine's Day, so Happy Valentine's Day to you all.
Today's theme was either re-create or freestyle.  I had originally done a mani with some love bird decals but they didnt stay on my nails properly, so here is my 2nd attempt at a freestyle mani.  It's a pretty simple, azy mani, but I love the colours and the simplicity.  I dont think I will manage to keep the heart on for long as I get the urge to pick off anything that isn't flush against my nail haha!  Also, i dont think it will go well under my gloves when I go to the football (soccer!) in the cold tomorrow!

I used Revlon Sweet Tart (Pink), High Brow (Purple) with Cherimoya Elektra Doll (pink/silver glitter) over the top.  Sealed with a Barry M Top Coat.   The gem i picked up along with 5 others in Poundland.

Here are some pictures of this mani in different lights and with/without flash.

Week of Love Valentine's Day Nail Art Challenge - Hearts

Day 4 of the Week of Love Valentine's Day Nail Art Challenge brings us Hearts. Again I have used false nails as I can't do a manicure a day on my actual nails, so doing some of these a little on advance.  Must be the first time ever (apart from the guest post) where I have had posts ready before the day they need to be posted!!

My hearts are not as good as I wanted them to be, but I think they still look like hearts.

I saw a design like this somewhere, and I can't remember where I saw it!  If i follow you on instagram, or blogger, or youtube, or facebook and you have done a design like this then let me know, as it was probably you! haha.  SO sorry that I can't remember!

I used soft pinks and lilac along with a whitey colour.  The pink on the thumb and the lilac are both High Brow from B&M polishes - I did a review on them here.  The darker pink on the pinky nail is Revlon Sweet Tart.  The whitey colour is All Nude by MUA, and the grey is Wet Cement (460) by Sally Hansen.  I have again topped all the nails with Barry M Crystal Glaze.

Haul/Review: Cynthia Rowley, Jess, Pretty, MUA

This is my first 'haul' post.  But I was so pleased with the bargains I picked up when I was in Glasgow, I had to share them.

First up are these two lovely Cynthia Rowley polishes which I picked up from TK Max for £3.99 (for 2, 15ml).

This pinky purple polish goes on very smooth, doesn't smell bad and dries with a bright matte finish.

This silver polish has flecks of sliver glitter in, goes on smooth, but dries textured.  The glitter really catches the light and shimmers.

Next up are two JESS polishes which I got from Poundland for... £1 (each, 9ml).

A neon pink, called 'Playmate' with pink shimmer and a blue/pink duochrome called 'Breathless'.  The polishes didn't smell too nice, but it is definitely worth it.  For the neon pink, a base coat is recommended on the bottle.  2 or 3 coats of this polish will really make the colour pop.  It did go on a little streaky, but each coat was better than the last.

Breathless, the blue/pink duochrome, is lovely.  When out of the light, the polish just looks like any other light blue polish, but as soon as some light hits it, the pink comes shining through.  Personally, I will be using this polish over a pale blue to make the pink stand out even more when it is in the light.  The swatch shows the colour on its own, with three coats.  This one went on less streaky than the pink.

I also picked up this un named 'Pretty' polish from Poundland (£1).

This reminds me of indie polishes.  It is a white creamy polish with multi-coloured glitter.  Again, not the nicest smelling nail polish out there, however, for £1, the polish goes on smooth and has a good amount of glitter in.  The picture shows 3 coats with no base or top coats.

Last but by no means least, I got an MUA polish from Superdrug (£1, 6.2ml) in the shade All Nude.
Application was smooth, and it had a nice even glossy finish.

Here's some pictures of the polishes on false nails - 3 coats of each (if I remember rightly!) in different lights.

The flash doesn't pick up the pink in the blue/pink duo brome like natural light does, it's a really difficult one to photograph!

Week of Love Valentine's Day Nail Art Challenge - Kisses

Day 2 of the Week of Love Valentine's Day Nail Art Challenge by Jessica @ Be Happy and Buy Polish.  The prompt for today is 'Kisses', so I went for the 'X' style kisses that people use when writing cards, texts etc.  I also added in some 'O''s - hugs (that often accompany 'X''s) - just to break up the pattern on the thumb nail a bit.  This is quite a simple mani, but I love it.

As you can see, I didn't have time to do this design on my nails, so I did it on false nails so that I can try and do as many prompts from this 5 day challenge - and all other challenges I'm part of - as possible.

I used Jess 'Playmate' which was from Poundland, and what a beautiful polish it is, it is such a bright neon pink, with a pink shimmer.  The whitey colour is 'All Nude' by MUA, again £1 (from Superdrug).  I used a black nail art pen from a set, and then topped all the nails with Barry M 'Crystal Glaze' which I am a little obsessed with at the moment.

Week 6 - Fingerfood's Theme Buffet - Hearts

Right, so the theme is 'hearts' this week, and it's more than likely because it is Valentine's Day at the end of this week.  I figured that there would be loads of valentine's heart manicures, and having already done one heart one ready for a different challenge, I decided to change it up a bit!

Here is my hearts nail art in honour of Team GB, who are currently competing at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Pre clean up!
